Just when The Walking Dead game it’s over, then we get another Walking Dead game. The Walking Dead: Assault is actually based in the TV series from AMC. I wasn’t too sure what to expect when I first saw the game, but the more we played it, the more we liked it. Read our full review to find out our impressions.

Graphics:

The graphics are actually quite different in this game. Everything is pretty much black and white except for blood and a few objects in the game. I will be honest, I wasn’t quite sure if I was a fan of the black and white graphics, but I guess some people really dig it. It is also nice to see a top down zombie game, since we haven’t seen too many lately.

Controls/Gameplay:

The controls work okay, but it did take me a little time getting used to them, especially when you are controlling the whole group of people. In order to control only one person, you have to select the person, and just tap anywhere in the screen so that the person goes there.

In order to move the whole group, you need to hold your finger on the screen, and then the group will automatically go there. I did feel like the controls could be a little more responsive, but overall they worked fine. The game follows the TV show from AMC, so if you are familiar with the series, you will know how the story begins. You will first play as Rick, who wakes up from the hospital and has no clue of what’s going on.

Sooner than later, you will start seeing Zombies, and there are also certain goals you have for each level. You don’t necessarily need to accomplish the goals, but you do get a better score if you accomplish them. The levels can take anywhere from 5 to 12 minutes to beat, so you will be entertained for a while. There are also more chapters to come in the near future as well.

During the game you will also have to plan your move carefully. You will discover that noises attract zombies, so you can use certain objects to your advantage and distract zombies. You will also need to grab as many supplies as possible, such as ammo, and all kinds of things that you can use to stay alive. Also, as you get farther into the game, you will unlock more characters from the TV show and you can choose which characters you want to use for the next level. Each character has a special ability as well, which makes the game more interesting, and you can also upgrade your character’s strengths, health, adrenaline and more.

Story/Premise:

The story is based on the TV series from AMC, so if you have watched the series, then you will feel right at home. But even if you have not watched the series, you can still enjoy the game.

Replay Value:

The replay value is pretty good. The levels are long enough to keep you entertained, and you can always replay them with different characters and difficulties.

Conclusion:

The Walking Dead: Assault is a well made game that you should totally try if you are into zombie games. The game is available in the app store for an introductory price of $1.99, and it is universal.

The game is based on the comic book series not the TV show. The wallpapers are actually scenes from the comic. And it’s in black and white because of the comic.
