It seems today was a big day for Zynga. They really have a lot of upcoming games and Matching With Friends is already available. The game is available for the iPhone/iTouch, and hopefully it will be released for Android. Although there is no release date yet for Android, I am sure it will come out in the next weeks.
Graphics:
The graphics look nice in the iPhone, it sure is a colorful game. The game really looks a lot like Words With Friends, just instead of letters, you see different colors on the board.
Controls/Gameplay:
The gameplay is a lot like the other With Friends games from Zynga. You can play somebody from your facebook account, or just a random opponent. You have to take turns during the gameplay. The main goal during the game is to line up 3 or more jelly blocks to make a match. Sounds easy right? But the farther you get into the game, the more tricky it will get. There are 2 versions of the game, a free one, and a paid one for $2.99. The paid version has no adds and you get 500 coins.
Coins are useful in case you want to swap the blocks you have, in order to make a better match. You can swap as many times as you want as long as you have money. Each time you swap, it will cost you 5 coins. Coins are also useful to buy bombs, there is only one bomb that does’t cost money, but the rest do.There are different types of bombs, some are stronger and will destroy more blocks. You can also have up to 20 different games at the same time. In order to get started in the game you will have to either connect to either Facebook or enter you email address.
There are 2 ways of getting coins. One is through in app purchases, and the other one is by finishing a whole game and when you win the reward is also better. The controls are very simple. All you do is drag the blocks to the desired place. Once the blocks are on the board, you can tap on them to rotate them. There are also bottons on the screen such as a swap botton, a bomb botton, resign, and a play botton for when its your turn. You do need to be wise with your money, cause you don’t get it too much. I won a game, and I only ended up getting about 18 coins which can easily be spent.
You will get a notification when is your turn. But if you don’t want to be notified, you can also turn it off in the settings.
Story/Premise:
Zynga definitely has been pumping out a lot of these With Friends games to my surprise. They are all kind of similar in some ways, but they also have their differences. This particular game looks a lot like Words With Friends, but like I said instead of letters, you play with different colors. Your main goal is to match at least 3 blocks of the same color, but the bigger the chain the better score you will get.
Replay Value:
The replay value in this game is pretty good, playing with different players sounds good to me. Each game is not too long, and being able to use bombs definitely adds some extra fun to the game.
Conclusion:
Matching With Friends is definitely worth the download, if you are unsure if it is your type of game, then you should try out the free version. If you loved it and absolutely hate adds, then you can always upgrade to the paid version. The game is simple enough for anyone to play, and it is a great time waster.
